Climate Change

How do we know the climate is changing? Temperatures are rising due to greenhouse gases, droughts are becoming more extreme, and tropical storms are becoming more severe. Climate change will do more than affect our weather—it will ultimately affect our everyday lives. Our wildlife could be become extinct, leading to our health being in danger from global food shortages and famine.

Currently, Americans do not think the government is doing enough to save our climate. “The new national survey by Pew Research Center, conducted April 29 to May 5 2020 among 10,957 U.S. adults using the Center’s online American Trends Panel, finds a majority of U.S. adults want the government to play a larger role in addressing climate change. About two-thirds (65%) of Americans say the federal government is doing too little to reduce the effects of climate change.” (Pew Research Website)
Strong majorities of Americans back policies aimed at reducing the effects of climate change. 90% of Americans support planting a trillion trees to absorb carbon emissions. About 84% of adults support providing a business tax credit for carbon capture technology. 80% support tougher restrictions on power plant emissions. 73% support taxing corporations based on the amount of carbon emissions they produce. 71% support stricter standards for vehicles and fuel-efficiency.
